Before you choose a broker

  • Search the broker's exact company name on the FSCA website and note its FSP number. Make sure that number appears in your client agreement, not just on the marketing page.
  • Treat social-media "mentors" who recommend specific trades or brokers with caution: the FSCA has said it is investigating finfluencers who give financial advice without authorisation.
  • Keep records of every deposit, withdrawal and trade for your tax return.
  • Most retail CFD accounts lose money. Size positions so that a bad week cannot end the account.
  • See today's times on our market hours page, and read how we test strategies before trusting anyone's backtest.

What we do not do

Empirical Quant does not sell signals or give personal advice to South African residents, and this page contains no broker links.
